Russo’s strike up for WSL Goal of the Month

Alessia Russo in action for Arsenal

Alessia Russo’s first-time strike against Bristol City has been nominated for the Barclays Women’s Super League Goal of the Month.

Our number 23 scored twice in the tie but it was her second pinpoint effort that was chosen as one of the league’s standout goals in April.

Receiving possession from Katie McCabe inside the area, Russo struck quickly and cleanly - the ball curling beautifully into the bottom corner to complete our 5-0 rout over the Robins.

Russo has also been nominated for the WSL Player of the Month, alongside teammate Beth Mead.

Russo wins April's women's Player of the Month

Alessia Russo has scooped her first women's Player of the Month award after our supporters chose her as April's winner.

The England striker came out on top of the vote ahead of Steph Catley, Emily Fox and Beth Mead to clinch the trophy, thanks to her excellent goalscoring form during the month.

Alessia found the net in all three of our fixtures in April, adding a total of four goals to her seasonal tally, which now stands at 14, including 10 in the WSL.

Our number 23 was in fine form against Bristol City, opening her account with a beautifully struck effort on the edge of the area before placing her second goal into the bottom corner with pinpoint accuracy.

She then also netted late on in the games against Leicester City and Everton to move into double figures in the league - the only player to have hit that mark for us this term.
